A Rose By Any Other Name

For the longest time I’ve wanted a very specific url for a blog someday. The blog name I was inspired by was “Psychedelic Buddha” which I thought sounded really cool personally and I thought no one would have it. Unfortunately, some bastard has been squatting on the url psychedelicbuddha.com for years and doing nothing with his site. I even like his logo but not sure what he plans to do with it. Anyway, when I decided to look again a while back to see if the name was available I was super excited to see that it was and immediately snagged it. After I’d hit commit on the purchasing however, I realized that I had mistyped the name as pychedelicbuddha.com (missing an s). And so, for months it has been bugging the hell out of me that my url is spelled wrong. Some of you may have noticed, others may not. However, last week I fixed it (sort of). I have obtained a correctly spelled url of psychedelicbuddha.net (not .com since that bastard is still squatting my url!!!!). SOOOO, all the old links prior to my blog are probably broken as I have taken the mispelled “.com” name down and replaced it with the correctly spelled “.net” name. This link works obviously but if you went back to read an older article and clicked on the link in Facebook it will be broken unless you change the spelling the correct .net address.

Work

  • More Linux training seems to be in my near future. I recently made contact with my newly assigned mentor and he’s excited to get me going. He also seems to be very detail oriented and giving me step by step instructions on how to help and what I need to know to get my hands dirty. It looks like he has LOTS of work for me if I can pick it up. I’m excited to learn new things…that is, if my job didn’t take a wrong turn this week.
  • This past week I had a major screw up at work that is a really big deal. Let’s just say I didn’t instill a lot of confidence in some high ups due to my own personal LACK of attention to detail. SOOOO, I’ve drawn some negative attention to myself lately but hoping that this will pass and it won’t put the breaks on me learning something new.
  • Also if my career isn’t over there may be new hope of me getting away from the Tech Desk even more. I’m hearing lots of rumors about budgets for next fiscal year starting in October and my name has come up more than once in those discussions and it appears I COULD be giving up some Tech Desk duties for new ones. I have to be super vague because co-workers actually read this blog and I don’t want anyone saying “well Lee’s saying he’s getting off the Tech Desk……” and getting it all out of context. Please don’t spread any rumors or I’ll have to stop sharing even vague things :).
  • Rhonda has been asked if she’d be willing to fly back to Kokomo, Indiana again to help out with the GM/Ventec plant there. She’s excited to get the opportunity to go again even if it will be only for a few days. Unfortunately it seems someone in that plant came down with Covid so they put the breaks on the trip for the moment and she’s not sure when she will be going.

Home

  • I’ve watched a few games of the NHL playoffs and I have to say that watching sports again has made it feel a little like the world is getting back to normal. I’m looking forward to the Seahawks starting very soon (September).
  • More and more Kraken gear is showing up in our area and I got some brand new “Release the Kraken” flags for my car only to have Rhonda roll down the window at 35 mph and have one of my flags fly off the car and get run over by at least three people before I could pull over and get it. On the positive side, these are HIGH quality products and it took a beating but still looks good and still works when you keep the windows rolled up.
  • Rhonda and I are starting to slowly get back in the groove with ESO again. We have tried to meet a few new guildmates in the guild we joined and we’ve started leveling some of our lower level characters again. I’m getting into it more than Rhonda I think as I’m getting back to daily routines of upgrading 9 character’s horses every morning, getting my daily log in reward and even starting to do daily writs again. Then again, it was Rhonda the other night who asked if we were going to play ESO so maybe we’re both sucked back in.
  • I’m still prepping to run my first D&D adventure in probably 30 years. It’s an interesting feeling and brings back a lot of good and bad memories. It’s going to be interesting to see how us old folks feel about roleplaying after all these years. Eventually I plan to write a humorous blog about the adventures of our D&D group and will host it at leecifer.psychedelicbuddha.net. In the meantime, the website is mostly just notes and preparation for our group. Feel free to check it out now if you like but the fun/humor stuff will come later and I’ll link that when I start it.
  • This weekend we had some good friends from the Tri-Cities come to visit us and had a GREAT time. I’m not listing their names only because I’m not sure they want me advertising that or not. They stayed a couple nights with us (three friends in all) and we hung out and treated some Tri-Citians to dining out in Phase 2 since you guys are all in Phase 1 in the Tri-Cities. I was shocked to see just how much they appreciated being able to go out in public.
  • Next weekend another friend from the Tri-Cities is coming for a visit and to play some disc golf so that will be exciting too.

Spiritual or Philosophical

  • A good friend of mine and I were discussing meditation lately and he turned me on to a guided meditation app by Sam Harris called “Waking Up”. There is a free 28 day meditation course and you can subscribe to year long guided meditation and instructional stuff if you want. The subscription does cost money (like $100 a year) but he legitimately says he will give it to you free if you just email him. He does not want anyone to give up because it causes financial hardship. I think he’s serious about that and I don’t think there is any catch. If you’re interested, check out “Waking Up” meditation by Sam Harris in your phones app store.

  1. Did you ask the “squatter” of he would sell? There are people who buy up as many URLs as they can then sell them for more. I hope works improves for you soon.
