Catching Up

This blog has been brought to you in part due to my new Rocketbook. I just started using this little beauty two days ago and will have a review of what I like and how I use it in a future blog post.

It has been a significantly long time since I’ve sent out a “Friends of Truth” update. I’m going to attempt once again to get back into regular updates, if nothing else for my own historical benefit. I’m going to leave some updates out this week so it’s not a freaking book but I’ve made notes to work in more updates in the weeks to come.

Work

  • Work is “ok”. Most of the staff are still working from home so I don’t have as much walk in business as I used to have. Having said that, just recently things are starting to pick up and with the increase of work my mood is improving. I wasn’t feeling really terribly useful for a while but now that’s changing and I’m feeling more and more valuable.
  • I haven’t been to Sequim in over a year and now that travel restrictions have been lifted a bit I’ve asked to return to Sequim to check in on staff who haven’t seen a tech in over a year. That request was basically rejected as the main office doesn’t think there is enough staff at work to support my going over there.

Home

  • This was a rough winter for my relatively new car (2019 Toyota Camery). First, I had a significant crack show up in my front windshield despite paying for a special protective coating and insurance to protect against cracks. Then I went up over a curb in a parkinglot that was covered in deep snow/slush and cracked the molding/trim along the bottom of the passenger side of my car right in half.
This curb was covered in snow. I was kind enough to clean it with the passenger side of my car
  • I got a chance to test two different insurance policies.
    • Zurich Shield had mixed results. It started with them telling me I didn’t have a policy so had no coverage. After a few frustrating phone calls between Zurich and the dealership my policy was “re-instated” and the windshield was replaced by Safelight. Safelight didn’t install the windshield correctly the first time as evidenced by the whistle in my windshield the next day on the way to work so it was replaced a second time by Safelight. Over all I was actually impressed with Safelight and Zurich once the early issues were worked out.
    • State Farm covered body work preformed by Carstar (a detail and body shop). Carstar was super clean and professional and even worked with State Farm and Enterprise rental car to ensure I had a vehicle to pick up and use while my car was in the shop and let me return the retnal at Carstar. Super efficient and friendly! However, my deductible on Collision (as they called it) was $500 so there’s that.

  • Last Saturday night I participated in my Fantasy Baseball League draft which started at 7pm and ended well after midnight (5 and a half hours). This is a league I started like ten years ago or more and have been a part of off and one for over a decade. Covid makes little hobbies like this much more enjoyable. What else do I have to do?
  • I find it funny that I’m a 50 something year old man still playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends. I’m actually running two campaigns for a bunch of 30-60 year olds and we are all having a lot of fun. Poor Rhonda however is playing in both campaigns and each session lasts 3 hours so she’s probably finding it a bit tedious every other week playing 6 hours of D&D.
  • I’ve been fortunate to work at a place where I can listen to the Derek Chauvin trail inbetween work duties. I’ve listened to many hours of testimony now (prosecutions case) and it’s hard to see how Chauvin has a chance of making a good defense. Then again, we haven’t seen the defense really lay out it’s position and I’m sure there will be some surprise in there. For those who are curious, I do personally believe Chauvin murdered George Floyd with unnecessary use of force based on what I’ve seen so far. Nothing has changed for me on that opinion yet. But as always, I just want a fair trail. He’s already convicted in the court of public opinion. I fear even if he DID have a good defense he’s going down regardless.

Spiritual or Philosophical

  • Right around Rhonda’s birthday she and I went to Port Townsend and stayed at a famously “haunted” hotel called the Palace. I was kind of jacked up about seeing if I felt anything at this hotel as I have experienced paranormal activity my whole life. Unfortunately for me, I really didn’t experience anything and don’t think my camcorder or audio recorder caught any strange bumps in the night either. Rhonda did however, feel someone touch her back when we were getting our things out of the car and we are both certain it wasn’t me. I was quite a ways away from her when she felt something touch the small of her back [insert creepy music here].
