I’ve been working on getting a little more fun in my life again lately. Whether that comes from watching Game of Thrones (yes we are still on season 5), watching NHL hockey, playing board or video games, or juust plain hanging out with friends, I’ve been doing a little more of all lately and it’s improving my mood a bit.
Work
- The finger injury I had at work last week has fully healed. Seems like it was a big to-do about nothing in retrospect though it hurt and bled like a son-of-a-bitch at the time.
- I have been waiting patiently for a Linux whiz I work with to get some free time and start mentoring me in coming up to speed with Linux system administration but I just found out this week that all his hard work has garnered him an offer from another agency and he suddenly announced his last day with us on Friday. I was lamenting to my boss how I lost my anticipated mentor but he quickly found me a potential new mentor from Richland so we’ll see if that will work out.
- Last week while working in the Seattle office I noticed that a few employees were looking out windows of their offices from our 4th floor. When I went to look at what they were watching it turned out we had a small group of Black Lives Matter protesters matching down our street in front of our building. I’d say there were 50 or so protesters and maybe 20 cars blocking both lanes. They were using a bull horn and chanting Black Lives Matter as they marched. Normally the protests are further south from our building and we haven’t seen it even though I-5 occasionally has reader boards warning that active protests are ongoing in downtown Seattle. While the few of us working in Seattle thought it was interesting, no one but myself apparently thought we should call in and report that active protests were happening literally in front of our building. We have staff who may or may not need to come into the office and it would probably be good for them to know they might want to avoid the area for a while. After my call they sent out a notice to Seattle staff about the protests with a caution about coming in at this time.
Home
- The NHL is back underway and I’ve been watching a bit of the playoffs for the Stanley Cup in anticipation of Seattle entering the league next year. Watching the Chicago Blackhawks because a friend up here is a big fan and also the Vancouver Canucks (rivals of Seattle Kraken).
- Speaking of the Kraken, Rhonda and I are seeing Kraken gear show up at Costco and other places and have bought some shirts and some car decals to start showing our team spirit. The decals and flags for the car haven’t arrived yet but we have the shirts.
- I got out and played a round of disc golf with one of my Seattle area friends last week and plan to play again with him tomorrow or the next day. The days are getting shorter however and he tends to not get available till after 5pm so not sure how much longer that will last this year. That’s about the only exercise I’m getting nowadays.
- Rhonda’s cousin Julie and her husband Rick were in town for the weekend to visit their dad in Granite Falls and asked to stop by and visit us. I had never met them but we got along great and we even ended up teaching them Pinochle and played cards for like 8 hours straight. We even have plans to play with them remotely using apps and facetime once they get back home.
- Rhonda and I are starting to get back into Elder Scrolls Online after taking many months off. We used to play nightly but got out of the routine months ago and ended up getting kicked out of the guild we belonged too. We miss having guild friends to hang out with and do dungeons with so we are hunting for a new guild to start playing with again.
- I never thought I’d say this again, but Dungeons and Dragons is a big part of my life lately. I’m preparing to run an adventure for 6 of our board game members in early September and have been learning the rules again and preparing something I hope will be fun for those of us who haven’t played in decades.
- Lastly, I had a scheduled tattoo appointment for Friday to continue my Alice in Wonderland themed tattoos but my appointment was cancelled last minute when the artists informed me he wasn’t ready so now it looks like my first appointment is going to be August 14th.
Spiritual or Philosophical
- Nothing to report other than my spiritual life lately is severely lacking.
