When I was selling my wife on the idea of moving to the Seattle area two years ago, one of the selling points for her was that temperatures here are much more moderate. Winters will be milder and summers will be MUCH milder on the west side than the east side of the state, I assured her. And then, that very first winter the Seattle area experienced the worst snow storm it had seen in twenty years. As roads shut down, accidents abounded everywhere and you needed a snow shovel to get out of the driveway, my wife was showing reservations. At least it won’t be as hot here as it is on the east side, I told her sheepishly. It never gets above about 80 here. And then on Sunday the Seattle area experienced the worst heat wave it has seen in 11 years and Everett tied it’s all time highest ever recorded at 98 degrees! Apparently we brought Tri-City weather to Seattle with us. We’re shitty guests.
Work
- It appears that my major screw up at work last week is going to turn out ok. By ok, it appears I’m not getting fired or getting written up or anything. Actually, I’m not entirely sure if I’m getting written up or not but I don’t think so.
- This week ahead at work has nothing special in store for either of us that I can tell however, I’m starting to get more work requests as staff are slowly starting to return to the office.
- Still no word on going to Sequim this month for my monthly visit to support staff there.
Home
- Rhonda and I are still playing ESO fairly regularly when we have time in the evenings. Well, when we aren’t watching one of a half dozen shows on our watch list.
- For example, Big Brother is back on CBS and we were pretty excited to start watching that again though I’m not entirely sure why. I’m on the bubble with CBS lately because the past two seasons of Big Brother and Survivor both have seemed to have become a platform for the TV station to express their views on social issues like racism, bullying, sexual harassment, and more. I don’t watch these shows to be manipulated into hearing what the station director believes I should think. I’m watching to be manipulated into believing there is any sort of “reality” to reality TV. Anyway, so far this year hasn’t been too bad (only one fake/forced house conversation about race but it was pretty short). I kind of vowed last year if Big Brother pulled shit like they did last year regarding “bullying” I’m going to stop watching. So far it’s better but it’s way early to tell.
- From time to time Rhonda and I continue working through season five of Game of Thrones. I can’t believe after all these years I still don’t know what happens. I love the show but can’t help hear all the voices in my head of people raging about how bad the last season was.
- I’ve had a couple of darker shows recommended to me lately because I enjoy dark shows. We’ve now watched a couple episodes of Hannibal which is pretty good so far and we’re queued up to watch Penny Dreadful next.
- Dungeon’s and Dragon’s is still the primary driver of my evening thoughts however, as I’m hoping to be prepared for our first adventure as a gaming group in mid-September.
- This weekend we had another good friend from the Tri-Cities up to visit us and had a great time. Rhonda had to work Saturday which really cut into the visitation time but it was great to just sit around, bullshit, and play some disc golf. Also, one of the few friends I can talk to about paranormal and spiritual shit and feel he’s genuinely interested.
Spiritual or Philosophical
- I’m still enjoying my meditation course “Waking Up” by Sam Harris. I was working through the free trial and then at day five I was presented with a lock screen for day 6 and asked to subscribe. I decided to take the company up on their offer of a free year of meditation if I just ask for a free account and sure enough, that same day I was granted my free account and even given a link I can send out to friends or family giving them a free month look at the course. I believe anyone else who wanted the free year could get it too so if you’d like a free month to look at it let me know and I’ll send you an invite. I do plan to pay the guy for his course should I keep with it a while longer. I just felt that $100 for something I’ve seen for five days was a bit steep so I’ll go a while longer and decide if it’s going to have longer term value for me.
- Weird shit still happens around me from time to time. This week I heard a high pitched humming in my ears during my meditation and my phone locked up and didn’t resume playing my guided meditation even after a reboot until the ringing in my ears stopped and it started playing again. There really is no explanation for that one. Also after my meditation was done I logged into my computer, opened a browser and typed a web address and my computer just shut off on me mid sentence. No warning, just pow! Off. WTF?
